I've been living in a housing community named Century Gardens. Before I moved, I called them up to set up my services in my house. When I found out that it was a fiber optic network that they would have connected straight to my house, I was delighted! I was just amazed that I would get speeds faster than what's normally available in the Kendall area (8mbps) or so I thought. Once I accessed their poorly designed website, I found out that they only provide a connection up to 5.5 mbps. I thought they had made a mistake. how can a fiber optic internet provider only provide speeds that I can get on a adsl line? After calling, I was told (by a woman that could not speak english) that the fastest I would be able to get was 5.5 mbps. I reluctantly agreed to paying $30 extra for the fastest internet tier they had.
After I moved, I came to realize that my problems were much, much bigger. I noticed that the fiber optic line had not yet been placed to my house. I called them up about this problem and I was given an appointment for the next day. The next day came and passed. Nothing. I called up again and I was told they had given him the wrong address and was reassured that the installer would be there the next day. I spent the next 9 days calling this company 4 times I day to get someone to install this fiber optic line. Finally, after 11 days of waiting, the job was done. The only problem now was: the cable had to be spliced and connected. That took 2 days of waiting to happen.
Eventually, cable was connected and I logged on to the internet to find myself browsing at speeds comparable to that of dial up. I immediately called immediately called up about this problem only to find out that a connection at 5.5 mbps (which I had already paid for) was not available in the community yet. In fact, not even the slowest tier was available. After a week later, I got my money back.
It's been 3 months since all of that has happened. I call almost every day concerning the issue with my speed and always get the same responce: "We're working on it". I was told that the connection would be fixed by Sept. 30th which also came and went with the issue unresolved. I have been able to learn many things about the type of services they provide.
I've come to learn that the connection is natt'ed (split between many other computers). The connection that they have on us right now is adsl. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so congested. I'm pretty sure that they service they will be providing will continue coming from ATT. Optical Telecommunications (HControl) does not provide alarm, internet, tv or phone themselves. They just lease the services from other companies.
They have to be the WORST company I have ever dealt with. They have provided the WORST service I have ever seen. Their "tech support" is very rude and incompetent. I just cannot believe such practices are allowed to go on.
